Swallowing Exercises

Exercise 1

Target population:
For those who do not have full control over their lips (e.g. drooling in stroke survivors due to incomplete lip seal)

Benefits:
Strengthens the function and coordination of one’s lip muscles

Exercise 2

Target population:
For those who do not have full control over their tongues (e.g. stroke survivors, patients with head & neck cancer, or cranial neuropathies)

Benefits:
Strengthens the function and coordination of one’s tongue
Facilitates one’s chewing process

Exercise 3

Target population:
For those who encounter difficulties in opening or closing their mouths

Benefits:
Increase the strength, coordination and range of motion of one’s jaw

Exercise 4

Target population:
For those who have swallowing difficulties (e.g. patients with dementia, Parkinson’s disease, or stroke survivors)

Benefits:
Strengthens the function and coordination of one’s pharyngeal muscles

Articulation Exercises

Exercise 1

Target population:
For those who have slurred speech, or speak too slowly

Benefits:
Improves articulation accuracy and clarity

Exercise 2

For those who have swallowing difficulties
